Join us this January for the Dr Johnson's House monthly lecture, sponsored by Fleet Street Quarter.
“Faithful Frank” lived just off Fleet Street. He is better known as Francis Barber who was the black servant to Dr Samuel Johnson, the creator of a version of the English Dictionary which was of crucial importance in the development of the English language. His life story has been documented using a compilation of comments and observations made by friends of Dr Johnson. Not all were favourable. But his life story mixed in with other black men and women of 18th century London will help frame what life was like.
