Clean and Green

CLEAN AND GREEN

The BID footprint spans just over 43 hectares, made up of a network of streets, alleyways and courtyards. Fleet Street Quarter is challenged by the narrow footpaths, limited squares and a deficiency of green spaces. We work in partnership with the City of London Corporation on a programme of investment for high quality public realm, exploring using spaces in a different way and testing alternative opportunities. As well as enhancing the physical experience when visiting the area, this strategic theme focuses on collaborating with our business community and public sector partners to tackle climate change and air quality issues to make our district more climate resilient, working together to future-proof Fleet Street Quarter.

URBAN FARMER PROJECT

The Urban Farmer Project brings sustainable growing into the heart of Fleet Street Quarter. By transforming unused spaces into pockets of greenery, we help local workers connect with nature, learn new skills and enjoy fresh produce grown close to where they work. From herbs and vegetables to planting, the project makes the Quarter greener and healthier, while encouraging conversations about how cities can support sustainable food.

LOVE TO RIDE

Cycling is one of the simplest ways to cut emissions, improve health, and keep the City moving. Through our partnership with Love to Ride, we encourage workers to take up cycling for commuting, leisure and fitness. Challenges, prizes and friendly competitions add a social side to riding, while the Cycle to Work scheme makes it easier for businesses to support staff. Together we are building a cycling culture that benefits people and the environment.

CLIMATE FESTIVAL

Each year, Fleet Street Quarter contributes to London Climate Action Week through our Climate Festival. The festival brings together business leaders, innovators and local workers to share ideas and solutions for a more sustainable future. With panel discussions, workshops and hands-on activities, it highlights the progress our community is making and inspires further action. The event is designed to turn vision into practice and build momentum for long-term change.

WHISPERS

Whispers, designed by Polish artist Oskar Zięta, was first unveiled in 2025 as part of the London Festival of Architecture. Delivered in collaboration with the Polish Cultural Institute and supported by the City of London Corporation, the installation has become a striking landmark in Fleet Street Quarter. Its reflective, fluid form invites people to pause and interact with the streetscape in a new way. We are ensuring Whispers continues to enrich the Quarter’s public realm and spark conversation about art, design and place.
